This picture was taken in one of the three tiny churches in Galena, Ak. in 2004. It was Easter Sunday, and we were dressed appropriately for April in the far north. My husband, Lee, had been commissioned to untangle the city's financial mess. For over 2 years he did just that, and we had the time of our lives. We were in deep snow more than half the year; temperatures got down to 50 below zero; we learned to ride the snow machines. We had the thrill of our lives when the Iditarod dog teams came right into our little village. I taught school occasionally,  (no teaching degree, but my psych. degree helped) . My second-graders drew pictures of me for a "good-bye" souvenier. I had kinky yellow hair, bright red lipstick and long orange fingernails -- a far cry from their usual female role models in the "bush".  It was so good to be in this slow-moving village. We have an open invitation to return. It's tempting.

Kerry Strand

Marital status: Married
Children: 4
Occupation: Retired
Comment: After graduation from Shoreline, I attended the University of Washington and spent three years in the Army before completing my degree in Physics. Although living most of my life in the Seattle area, I have moved back and forth to North Carolina, California, and Pennsylvania. I have been married to Paula, my third wife, for 13 years.  We share four kids and five grandkids ages 1 year to 21 years old.

Since retiring from Boeing after 33 years, I have spent much time traveling the world.  Paula and I have been on all seven continents in the last two years.  Our favorite modes of travel are cruising on big ships and going on guided land tours.  For sports, I snowboard in the winter and skydive in the summer.  Last year, I earned my Gold Wings for completing 1000 skydives.  When not traveling, I live an active life, working out daily, playing bridge and raquetball, and most importantly, spending leisure mornings at Starbucks.

"Just a few lines as we regret that we will be unable to attend the 50th reunion.  Since I am on 5 LPM Oxygen 24/7;  flying is not possible.  Obnoxious gas prices prohibit driving.  I have had two cataract surgeries (now no eyewear) Hooray!  Our eldest grandson is currently serving in the VA National Guard.

Sorry we can't make it. Have a good reunion."
