After graduating from the UW with a degree in chemistry, I served 4 years as an officer on a diesel submarine. I then obtained an MBA from Stanford University. After briefly working for an accounting firm and a ski resort, I returned to Stanford first as the financial director and then Associate Director of Stanford's computer center (1970-1984) and then transferred to the Office of Technology Licensing. Since 2003, when I converted to Emeritus status I spent most of my time going to other regions of the world to show them how to more efficently convert ideas and innovation into new products and services to create jobs and improve economies. Looking forward to seeing classmates. |

After graduating from college, I served as an Air Force officer for more than 16 years (5 years active, and the rest in reserves), and then I retired from the Air Force with the rank of Captain. I was hired out of active Air Force service in 1968 by a division of United Technologies in Connecticut, and I worked as a project manager on development of the Air Force's Manned Orbiting Laboratory. After that project, I worked in the Apollo Moon Program on development of back packs that astronauts used for walking on the moon. After that, I came back to Seattle and worked for the telephone company (USWest) as a data processing manager, and then I took a retirement offer after 20 years. I then worked for Nordstrom in data processing for another 12 years, and retired from there in 2002. Since then, with my wife Diana as my boss, I'm loving retirement!

Never in my minds eye did I envison myself being a senior citizen. When in high school I used to ignore people my age. I'm trying to retire but my wife says no! My being at home to her is like keeping an elephant in the kitchen. One of us would be dead of frying pan injuries after six months. See ya at the 50th! |

Since I retired in 1997, I have used my time to really get serious about helping my sister, Judi (a Shoreline attendee also) get our Family History book going. Judi and I have gathered a lot of information for our book (she lives in Kansas and I'm here in Virginia, so you can imagine how much gets done by telephone and email). Our challenge now is to go thru it all and decide what to put in and what to leave out. I enjoyed caring for my grandchildren (4 grandsons and 2 granddaughters) when they were small, but they are all growing up, the two oldest boys both reaching 21 this year, and the youngest granddaughter turning 12 this past December. They don't seem to need Grandma so much, so I just see them when they have time and aren't busy with sports and their friends. I lost John in Feb 07, and even tho we had been divorced for 19 years, I cared or him the last 9 years of his life. He had diabetes, causing him to lose both of his legs in the end, heart by-pass and strokes. We became good friends, and we worked in The American Legion together. I have given up all positions as an officer in the Legion, just help with programs at the VA Hospital, and ther programs that I enjoy. Of course, I still do my "Computers for Kids" program, restoring old computer and fixing them up for kids that don't have one. Just hope to give them the extra skills that will help them keep up in school with the other kids. For many years, I held the unofficial job as historian for my Post, so I am not in many. I am sending my graduation picture, and one of my sister, Ella (Floyd) Wynhoff and myself. I had a bad fall and an MRI, showed I have a bad concussion (thank God not a fractured skull). I had to go to a neurologist due to headaches I have since the fall. After 2 more MRI's and a MRA, He put me on meds that I am having a reaction to. Until we figure that out, I can't go anywhere. Anyway, good luck to everyone and have a great time. I will be thinking of you all out here in Virginia. |
